We want you to #JOINTHEREBELLION!
For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.
We’re seeking a skilled and innovative Machine Learning Engineer to join our cutting-edge ML Team. You’ll be part of a small, highly collaborative group dedicated to pushing the boundaries of AI/ML technology in gaming.
You will support design, engineer, validate, and assist to deploy, and improve machine learning systems that operate across research, development, staging, production, monitoring, and continuous improvement lifecycles.
You will work within machine learning discipline, but have intersection with computer vision, NLP, geospatial and multimodal data pipelines, production engineering, and internal tools that support real game development delivery. We are especially interested in candidates who can translate promising research into usable, maintainable, scalable systems.
What You Will Work On
- Photogrammetry-driven reconstruction pipelines for 3D environments and world-building workflows
- Point cloud and LiDAR intelligence, including classification, semantic segmentation, feature extraction, and preprocessing
- DEM (DTM, and DSM) processing for terrain analysis, height understanding, and environmental modelling
- Satellite, raster, and imagery pipelines that support terrain masks, landscape understanding, and world scale data preparation
- Multimodal intelligence pipelines spanning imagery, spatial datasets, elevation data, point clouds, and related sources
- Machine learning systems that transform complex real-world data into game-ready outputs
- GPU-accelerated training and inference workflows for large-scale spatial and visual datasets
- Production ML workflows including packaging, deployment, monitoring, retraining, validation, and model lifecycle management
- Integration of ML and DL capabilities into internal tools, build workflows, and engine-facing production pipelines
Key Responsibilities
- Research, design, implement, and support validation of ML and DL approaches for game development use cases
- Build robust pipelines for photogrammetry, terrain intelligence, point cloud processing, DEM analysis, and satellite-data-driven asset preparation
- Train, evaluate, fine-tune, and optimize models for quality, reliability, and production performance
- Support Head of ASIE to move ML capabilities from experimentation into staging and production-ready delivery
- Contribute to reproducible, testable, observable, and maintainable ML systems
- Support model packaging, inference workflows, versioning, monitoring, and long-term improvement
- Work across governed engineering environments, with attention to traceability, validation, and secure delivery
- Under guidance of Head of ASIE, support collaboration with code, art, design, production, engineering, and technical stakeholders to ensure outputs are useful in real development workflows
- Support to develop reusable ML libraries, tooling, and frameworks that can support future game projects
- Document approaches, dependencies, assumptions, and operational procedures to support team delivery and sustainable ownership
Essential
- Strong Python engineering skills, with proven hands-on machine learning experience
- Solid experience building, training, evaluating, and improving ML or DL models
- Strong practical experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow
- Good understanding of data preparation, feature pipelines, model evaluation, tuning, and deployment
- Experience working with computer vision, imagery, spatial datasets, raster data, point clouds, or similarly complex technical domains
- Experience writing production-quality code rather than working only in research notebooks
- Experience with version control and structured engineering workflows, ideally including GitLab and/or Perforce
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams including code, art, design, production, and engineering
- Understanding of how to translate experimental or research-led work into usable systems
Strongly Preferred
- Experience taking ML or DL systems beyond prototypes into development and assist in staging and/or production
- Familiarity with MLOps practices, including experiment tracking, reproducibility, model versioning, CI/CD, monitoring, and retraining workflows
- Experience with Docker; Podman, familiarity with Kubernetes
- Familiarity with MLflow, Kubeflow, Airflow, or similar orchestration / lifecycle tooling
- Experience building batch inference and/or API-based inference services
- Experience with GPU training, optimization, and large-scale data processing
- Experience with testing and validation practices for ML systems
- Understanding of secure, auditable, and traceable delivery in governed environments
Highly Relevant Domain Experience
- Geospatial computing, remote sensing, photogrammetry, point cloud / LiDAR processing, raster and terrain data engineering, environmental reconstruction, game development pipelines, AI-assisted content generation, and translation or NLP systems where relevant to other ASIE initiatives
Useful Technical Exposure
- NumPy, Pandas, OpenCV, scikit-learn, scikit-image
- PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras GDAL, Rasterio, PDAL, Open3D
- LAS / LAZ workflows, geospatial processing libraries, and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
- Optional C++ capability
We offer an extensive benefits package to our team including:
- 22 days holidays + Christmas closure (typically 4 days) & Bank holidays (increasing with service at 5 years – one day each year until you reach 31 days)
- Private Medical Insurance, healthcare cash plan, including dental and Vision
- Life Assurance, Income Protection & Critical Illness Cover
- Enhanced Family Leave
- Interest Free, Tax-Free loans
- Enhanced Pension Scheme
- EAP a range of Mental Health and Wellbeing Support
