Description

Vector Solutions is seeking an AI Engineer to build the technical foundation for AI across the organization. The AI Engineer partners with Engineering and business teams to design, build, and maintain the internal AI tools, integrations, and workflows that enable teams across Vector Solutions to work more effectively.

This role is ideal for a software engineer with a passion for AI who enjoys learning quickly, experimenting with emerging technologies, and building practical solutions that improve how work gets done. In addition to developing AI-powered capabilities, the AI Engineer actively shares knowledge by documenting best practices, coaching teammates, and helping others adopt new tools and techniques.

Success in this role requires curiosity, a continuous learning mindset, and a desire to translate new AI advancements into practical solutions that create value across the organization. This role is designed for someone who is eager to grow rapidly by expanding their technical expertise, taking on increasing ownership, and evolving into a trusted technical leader as both the technology and the organization continue to mature.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain internal AI integrations, automations, and workflow tooling using Anthropic APIs, Claude Code, and related frameworks
  • Develop and iterate on Vector’s internal Claude OS, the tools, prompts, configurations, and integrations teams rely on day-to-day
  • Evaluate new AI models, tools, and APIs; recommend and implement adoption when appropriate
  • Build and document reusable prompt libraries, API wrappers, and AI-assisted development scaffolding for engineering teams
  • Support AI training sessions, create technical documentation, and share best practices with Engineering teams.
  • Partner with PO and AI Enablement Engineer to ensure technically complex workflows are well-documented and accessible to non-technical users
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of Vector's AI tooling roadmap in partnership with Product and Engineering leadership.
  • Participate in reviews of AI tool usage, data handling, and API access patterns to support security and compliance requirements.
  • Track model performance, API costs, and usage patterns; surface optimization opportunities to leadership
  • Other duties within the scope of this role may be assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred but not required, equivalent hands-on experience will be considered
  • 1-5 years of software engineering experience, with meaningful exposure to AI/ML tooling, LLM APIs, or AI-assisted development workflows
  • Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python preferred) and comfort working across the stack when needed
  • Direct experience with LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar) including prompt engineering, tool use/function calling, and multi-turn conversation design
  • Strong systems thinking, naturally considers integration points, failure modes, and scalability when designing solutions
  • Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain architectural decisions to both engineers and non-engineers
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally, with a genuine interest in enabling others, not just building for yourself
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and iterating quickly in a fast-moving AI landscape
  • This position is expected to evolve as business needs, technology, and the way we work continue to change. Success in this role requires adaptability, continuous learning, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities and initiatives that are within the scope and purpose of the position in support of the firm's strategic objectives.
  • Preferred (not required): experience with agentic AI patterns, Claude Code, or multi-agent workflow design; familiarity with the Claude model family and system prompt design; background in developer tooling or infrastructure engineering; exposure to SaaS, EHS, or compliance-adjacent domains; experience with API cost modeling or usage tracking
