Why This Role Matters
The AI Engineer plays a critical role in accelerating Voya’s AI transformation—building scalable, production-grade AI solutions that enhance customer experience, improve operational efficiency, and unlock new business value. This role connects data, engineering, and business outcomes—bringing AI from concept to impact.
Primary Purpose
Design, build, and deploy AI/ML and generative AI solutions that power digital experiences, automate workflows, and enable smarter decision-making across Voya’s retirement, wealth, and employee benefits businesses.
What You’ll Do
Build & Deploy AI Solutions
Design, develop, and deploy machine learning and generative AI models (LLMs, NLP, predictive models) into production environments
Build scalable APIs, pipelines, and microservices to support AI-powered applications
Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agent-based systems, and model orchestration frameworks
Partner Across the Enterprise
Collaborate with Product, Data, and Business teams to identify high-impact AI use cases
Translate business needs into technical solutions with measurable outcomes
Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Legal to ensure responsible AI practices and regulatory alignment
Drive Engineering Excellence
Establish best practices for model development, testing, monitoring, and performance optimization
Ensure high standards for code quality, scalability, security, and reliability
Contribute to modern engineering practices (DevOps, MLOps, CI/CD pipelines)
Advance AI Capability
Stay current with emerging AI/ML technologies and apply them pragmatically
Evaluate and implement new tools, frameworks, and platforms (LLMs, vector DBs, orchestration tools)
Contribute to Voya’s AI strategy and long-term technology roadmap
Experience & Profile
5–10+ years in software engineering, data engineering, or AI/ML development
Hands-on experience building and deploying AI/ML models in production environments
Strong proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)
Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and/or RAG architectures preferred
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data ecosystems
Experience operating in regulated or data-sensitive environments (financial services preferred)

Compensation Pay Disclosure:
Voya is committed to pay that’s fair and equitable, which means comparable pay for comparable roles and responsibilities.
The below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed. In addition to base salary, Voya offers incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Voya Financial is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate’s geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
