Johnson Controls is hiring a Data Scientist / AI Engineer to support our Centrifugal Chiller Engineering organization. In this Engineering Enablement role, you will design, deploy, and sustain data-driven and AI-enabled tools that improve engineering efficiency, quality, and decision-making.

This role is focused on practical, applied solutions—transforming engineering data, standards, and workflows into robust, user-friendly tools that engineers rely on every day. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about using AI and automation to solve real-world engineering problems and streamline daily work.

This position is based at our Advanced Engineering and Development Center (ADEC) in New Freedom, PA. We prefer candidates that are commuting distance to the office, or able to relocate.

How you will do it

  • Design, develop, and maintain data-driven and AI-enabled tools for engineering teams

  • Translate complex engineering challenges into scalable, maintainable technical solutions

  • Build tools integrated with Excel, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and engineering databases

  • Prioritize usability, reliability, and adoption by non-software engineers

  • Analyze engineering, test, and quality data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities

  • Develop statistical, machine learning, or rule-based models based on problem needs

  • Enable automated reporting, dashboards, and visualizations

  • Apply AI/ML techniques where they deliver clear, measurable engineering value

  • Leverage low-code / no-code platforms to accelerate deployment and adoption

  • Support responsible AI practices, including traceability, validation, and documentation

  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and IT stakeholders

  • Contribute to Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Own deployed tools throughout their full lifecycle, including enhancements and sustainment

What you will need

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • 2–7 years of experience developing data-driven tools, automation, or analytics solutions

  • Proficiency in Python or a similar data/automation programming language

  • Experience working with structured engineering, test, or quality data

Preferred

  • Experience in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial environments

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and foundational machine learning techniques

  • Experience building internal tools for non-technical users
